MCCC Shell Corporate day is a great success

Just wanted to say a particular thank you to Satish and Jim for their efforts in helping to organise our first corporate day in association with Shell. There were a number of other MCCC members who also helped on the day including Sayed Imran, Mitul, Steve O'Neil and other others. A lot of fun was had by all. The weather was fantastic for the event. Hopefully we can do a similar type of event in 2008.

MCCC won the game with Jadid Khan starring with the bat making a quick 36

Morden Through to Final

The league boys are through to the wey valley league knockout cup final. The boys knocked off the undefeated division 1 winners Temple Bar by 4 wickets. The boys bowled well and restricted the oppo to 166/7 from 40 overs. The boys got through in the 33rd over thanks to a great 59 not out from Steve "the beater" Cumings. Steve was well supported by his brother Roy, Craig and Gerry. The game was marred by a kapil Dev incident which almost spilled out into a fracas with Andrew "WWf refereee" Jarrett keeping the calm. Notes include Tush "mini harper" Whadwa unable to to handle a funnel for more than 1 second, and Ryan Lang not handling his either

Well done boys, A result the club can be proud of. One more game.

Good Win against Carshalton

It was one of the worst performances of the Sunday team in both the bowling and fielding departments, nowhere near the standards we had set in the early part of the season. However, the batting saved the day for us and we had a very good win against Carshalton.

Imran scored an unbeaten 116 and set up the match in MCCC's favor. Chasing a total of 209, we reached the target in the 30th over, winning by 7 wickets.

Kaleem was the other star performer of the day with his wonderful legspin (snapping 3 wickets) and scoring a boundary lit 70.

Match report to follow.

MCCC Sat1st XI v Old Dorkinians - 10th Aug (Home)
Match Lost

On a day when dropped catches were about as plentiful as 4x's and 6x's we went down against Old Dorkinians. They scored 260 odd, with extras (40) and one batsmen (102) dropped (3x) contributing 140 of the runs. We made a valiant effort and by the 13th over we looking good at 110 odd for 2. However great catches and run-outs by the opposition turned out to be the difference on the day and we ended up being 60 short all out in the 30th over.

I saw this interesting bit of info on the Epsom Methodists CC website. This is info we should know when proudly representing MCCC

The term Corinthian is derived from one of the four major races of ancient Greece (including the Spartans, Athenians and another one I can’t remember), each of which is said to have had defining characteristics. The Spartans were a violent warrior race, the Athenians where highly commercial, and the “other lot” were seafaring. By contrast the Corinthians had a particular moral code of chivalry, which stood them apart from the other races, and this has come to define to ethos underpinning the concept of amateur sport in the modern Olympic era. Morden Corinthians book a place in the quarterfinals of the League Knockout Cup

Morden entered yesterdays contest versus Guildford City who finished fourth in Division one as the underdogs in the eyes of the opposition. The oppo chairman had been stating that the Morden boys were on a hiding second to nothing apparently. So The boys provided quite the shock to the oppo and posted 270 odd for 5 thanks to a brilliant 109 not out from Nick "I is The Kiwi Hefner"Hughes and a great 70 from Steve "The beater" Cumings. The oppo still appeared confident as they had an opening batsman who scored nothing but hundreds apaprently. The boys set up shop and had the oppo reeling at 19-7 at one point. The boys finished the job and got the oppo out for 55 with Andy "I is so Angry "Allan taking three sticks and Andrew "Shoe laces are forever" Jarrett picking up 5 . Craig "Larry Flynt is my hero" Harper also played apparently.

Please note that the match report may contain scenes of a graphic and disturbing nature as to many incidents of general muppetry occured.

I hope this will the first of many accolades over the next few years. Moreover we would also like to wish the league team well during the league cup which starts this weekend.

I wanted to send this email earlier but I've been tied up some building work that is being done at home at the moment.

MCCC Sat1st XI v Trinity - 4th Aug (Away)
Match Drawn

On the hottest day in ages we played against a solid opponent Trinity as a replacement to our missed game v Chertsey 4th. We score 210 odd and could not manage to bowl them out in the alloted time. Well done to Greg "I can turn my arm over" Robberts for helping us out. A great and competitive day out.

The Twenty twenty Final. Thanks to Lindy C for the picture

Please dont call the Rspca as at first glance it appears that two monkeys

Brian's team won a tight game against Epsom Methodists on Saturday. The Might Ducks won the toss and scored 166 thanks to a solid batting display all the way down the order.

On a flat track with the sun beating down this was probably 40 runs short (at least) however an outstanding bowling display lead by the skipper, Raj and Tushy brought home victory by 19 runs.

An outstanding team performance by a patched up Morden side.
