RIVERSIDE MELTS UNDER PRESSURE UP AS MCCC TRIUMPH
Andrews team won by 2 runs in an absolute thriller on a batsman's pitch (well technically a slightly more lawnmown area thatn the outfield) at Alexndra Rec. Defending 273 thanks to an outstanding 127 from Jason Borea, MCCC looked dead and buried with the strong oppo on 230-2 off of 33 overs and the oppo players packing the kit bag in anticapation of the 2 batsman carrying them home( they were on 122 and 45) to the win. However the MCCC boys did not lie down and the beggining of a fantastic team fightback began. Wickets tumbeled, bodies were put on the line and the sledging increased to match the oppo's chirps. The oppo were 262-8 going into the last over and had become very silent thanks to the boys fielding , bowling and sledging like men possesed. So the oppod were left needing 12 for the win and 11 to tie. Some great fielding and at the death bowling by Steve O saw the boys home by 2 ( despiter the penultimate ball being hit for 6). Well done boys, fantastic game, and fatastic effort. MCCC also set a record for UK Council ground cricket by having a bowler warned by the umpire for running on the pitch ( technically the pitch and outfield looked the same and a herd of buffalo running on the pitch would not have made a difference to thew way it played)

An outstanding team display from Brian's side set up a thrilling two wicket win this afternoon.

MCCC won the toss and bowled first. An excellent fielding display, lead by Ewan Cotter who kept wicket superbly, restricted Reigate Priory to 185. Special mentions to Duncan Wheeler and Daniel Denize who both recorded club best figures.

MCCC set about their chase with gay abandon. Despite losing Satish early on, both Chirag and Theo took the attack to the oppo, recording club best scores of 25 and 14 respectively. A middle order wobble left Duncan, Daniel and David Clifford to rebuild the innings. Eventually a 60 run partnership between Daniel (39*) and Raj (5*) won the game for MCCC.

This was a wonderful game to take part in. Well played one and all. Photos to follow soon.

For those of us at the end of the 130 run humiliation at the hands of Hampshire's U12 team. Fear not! It could have been so much worse.....

Andrews team pulled off a 3 wicket win in an entertaining game versus Old Whitgiffians 4th team. We even managed a win in yet another time game. Chasing 147 to win off 35 overs( and the oppo had 43 overs -the joys of time games) Jason Ware struck the winning runs in the 30th over. Good team effort with Jason producing a great innings. Well done boys.

A quick image from last weekend....

"Brian's team" were destroyed by a crack squadron of small boys today. Bowling first Morden restricted the oppo to 185 thanks to solid efforts from the Clifford brothers - Brian 3/31 and David 1/24 on debut. Our response started brightly, Vikram Sangar leading the assault with a destructive 25. After that we fell away quickly to be all out for 56. Two colts picked up 6 wickets between them, with a 12 year old left arm pacer causing us all sorts of problems. Thanks to everyone who played today. This side included 4 debutants, plus John Spurgin making his first appearance of the season.

Back - David Clifford, Brian Clifford, John Spurgin, Richard Wainer, Duncan Wheeler.
Middle - Vikram Sangar, Theo Moore, Ewan Cotter
Front - Rajeev Sharma, Tom Rebane

Quote of the day
A few years ago, I was chatting up a girl in a lift and she was not having any of it. She thought I was too tall and geeky and all that and I needed a wing-man. In walked Shane Warne and he was the best wing-man.

Vivek's team recorded their fourth successive win with a victory in Sussex against Turners Hill today. This was overshadowed by a serious injury suffered by star all rounder Anand (sustained while picking up his second wicket of the day).

Everyone's best wishes go to Anand and the team wish him a speedy recovery (early prognosis is that he'll miss the last three test matches and may be doubtful for the Ashes). Also thanks to David for taking good care of him.

Full report (and photos!) to follow

Andrews Team were held to a draw versus Old Paulines 4th team. Needing 16 off of the last over we unfortunately fell short by 10 and had to settle for the draw in a time game. We faced a lot of colts who were obviously well coached and who preceeded to use the edge of their bats very efficiently with a record number of chances falling short or through the slips. The team were never in danger of losing and were aggresive in the run chase against some very good spin bowling in particular.Oh well.

Vivek's team made it three wins on the trot with a resounding win against Samba. Morden batted first and set a formidable total thanks to Girish carrying his bat through the innings and a blistering fity from Vivek.

Samba started solidly, but Craig Stewart edged himself closer to an Aussie test call up by bagging 6 wickets bowling up the hill to record season's best figures for the second Saturday side.

Andrews Team managed a resounding win versus cuddington casuals. Batting first (makes a change) we posted 330-6 with Roy Capitao starring with a superb 118. He dispatched the ball to all corners and through a few windows as well. Thanks to some great bowling and fielding we were able to get Cuddington out for 149. Victory margin being 181 runs.

Girish Patel - Solid batting yet again..

"Brian's" team completed a convincing 9 wicket win against Natwest IVths this afternoon.

In a game that was shortened to 30 overs in the hope of bring finished in time for the football, MCCC restricted NW4 to 153 - thanks to some great economical bowling from Brian and David, followed by more Spin Kings action (as per last week) from Hament, Matt O, Ewan and Theo - before knocking off the runs in imperious fashion thanks largely to an opening patnership between Girish and Andy Spencer which took the game beyond NW4, plus another great cameo not out from Imran.

Full report is now in the match report section

Andrews Team went down swinging today ( quite literally). Chasing 220 we fell short and ended on 149 all out. Even thought the loss margin was quite great, the game was tight up untill the entire midle order went down playing golf shots or on one occasion what looked like a reverse sweep played by swinging through 360 degress in an attempt to hit the ball with the opposite side of the bat.
