Match report for MCCC vs Laleham Saturday May 28 2005

Mixed fortuntes for the two Saturday teams this weekend. The home team were playing Presidents XI at Raynes Park where they failed to chase 171. This was an improved Presidents XI team who we had always previously beaten. Never under estimate the oppo!

The away team who were playing at Laleham CC notched up an impressive win scoring 257-3 off 40 overs with Edgar Luis smashing an unbeaten 115. Laleham were bowled out for 103 with Grant Burger taking 4 wickets and Imran Khan taking 3. Jim Patel also bowled a tight line.

The Sunday team also had a tough time of it against new opposition down at Barne Elms Sports club. Owais CC bludgened 210 off 35 overs to leave MCCC to struggle before the match had to be abandoned as the park keeper was going to lock everyone in. Owais CC must have just stolen a win by Duckworth Lewis method.

Andy Alan, Rajesh Ganesh and Steve Vickey look on as MCCC go onto score 165 against Old Manhattans.

MCCC v's Old Manhattans - Saturday 21st May 2006. Hament Patel, batting at number 2 keeps a yorker out. Hament was batting with brother Girish who continued his rich form with another 50. Several droppped catches prevented another victory with a closely fought draw being the eventual outcome. Andy Alan and Rajesh Ganesh bowling us almost to victory. Old Manhattans managed to hold to draw the game and even came close to winning with 10 runs off the last over required. Andy Alan bowled a tight last over to ensure a a draw. This was really a game that Morden Corinthians should have won. Catches certainly win matches and that's what we didn't do. In the end we were lucky not to lose.

Batting Consistently in 2005 for MCCC: Girish drives his way to 44 not out against Battersea Ironsides on Saturday 14 May 2005

A scene from the new Star Wars film, 'Revenge of the Sith'. Master Jess 'Yoda' Sharling is teaching his young disciples the way of the force! This photograph was taken during the game against Battesea Ironsides (Take 2). We already played the previous week. This occasion the game was at played at home in Raynes Park. MCCC won by 8 wickets with Girish Patel showing some very stylish shots on his his way to score 44. He also took three wickets. Other fine bowling performances came from Krishna Murali and Raj Ganesh. Raj is leaving the club during the season as he is relocating to Singapore. The club wish him well when he does leave and his all round cricket ability will be missed.

It's been a busy week so not much has been updated on the site in the last few days. Saturday sees MCCC put 2 Saturday sides out in against Albamorphics and Battesea Ironsides neither of which we have played in the club history before.

The weekend saw the MCCC unbeaten run come to an end with the Sunday team losing by 8 wickets in a local derby against Wimbledon Park. Jim Patel wasn't best pleased at the opposition who put out a stronger than expected team. We were pre-league season cannon fodder! The Saturday team had better fortunes by managing to beat Old Dorkinians in a close game. Despire winning, MCCC batted like donkies on what was a really spongy track. Lots of crap shots were played by all. However some inspired bowling by Andy Allan ably backed up by others led us to victory. This was Mark Bartram's 2nd consecutive victory as a stand in captain whilst Andy Fletcher was away for the weekend. Can the skipper keep the run going? Albamorphics are probably a bit stronger than our usual opposition but with this years squad we should be able to put up a reasonable show but you never can tell what's going to happen.
