Chairmans Blog
Yet another week has flown by! Where is the time going? A group of the officers met at Raynes park to discuss club business last Sunday night. Those who turned up included myself, Brian Clifford, Gerry Coetzer, Steve O'Neil, Ewan Cotter, Cuan, Tush, Andrew Jarret, Jason Ware and Roy Cummings. I know I've forgotton someone here.

I thought it was a useful meeting. One of the main themes that came out of the meeting is how we can continue to grow the club without creating divisions between the teams. We're going to try and follow some kind of informal player rotation so at least between the 1st and 2nd teams. The idea is that each team will have a core set of five or six players and the rest of the team will be rotated. I hope we can also do something similar with the league team depending on the strength of the opposition as we need to always put out a team that will win. Some league oppo may allow us to give players from 1st/2nd teams a chance to get some league experience. The final say is down to the captains of the teams. Team selection is always a difficult job so I don't really want it made any more difficult for the skippers.

Jim also handed out some of the newly purchased cricket gear. Although the bats have come pre-knocked Jim still is going give them a further hour of knocking. Hopefully the noise isn't going to disturb too many customers or annoy Mrs. Patel!

From a personal perspective I am really looking forward to nets. Firstly, the format this year is a bit different to last year. We only had 1 hour of nets booked and given the turnout last year I think 2 hours will give more batting time to everyone. We did a post net survey last year and most people seemed in favour of a longer net session. Brian "Lumboo" Clifford has been focussing on membership this year and we should see some new faces at nets because of this.

Ewan is doing a quiz night on Tuesday at Raynes Park so if you're able to attend please do.

Hope to catch up with you at nets and maybe at the quiz night.
