Saturday's game against Riverside ended after the heavens opened. MCCC were very lucky to get away without losing this game. Riverside has scored 213 off 40 overs. A strong opening partnership between Mark Bartram and Steve O'Neil got MCCC off to a positive start. But some accurate bowling from Riverside frustrated our batters who started to give their wickets away with forced strokes. After 25 overs it got incredibly dark with some low level cloud. It was like someone turning the lights out! Then the rain came.
The players came off for a short period whilst the Riverside skipper kept on saying "it looks like it was clearing up over there" when in reality the rain drops were coming down faster than ever!! After a brief wait the stumps were taken out and we shook hands with the oppo. All in all it was a disappointing team performance for MCCC. Riverside batted well and kept the run rate consistent throughout their innings. Some of our bowling half way through the Riverside innings was just way too short and got the treatment it deserved. We cannot bowl short and not expect to get punished. In a limited overs game it's all about line and length as well as economy rate. We look forward to next year when we can give a better performance against our old friends Riverside.
